Yazmi is the future of education across the globe.

A truly end-to-end education solution, Yazmi's proprietary satellite network offers the ability to transmit content - digital textbooks, live-streaming and taped lectures, preparatory materials, educational games, apps and more - to an unlimited number of students and teachers across Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

Bridging the Digital Divide

Yazmi's proprietary solution is delivered via our satellite network into the hands of more than one billion students across the globe through our Android-based Odyssey tablets.

Broadcasts can consist of any type of digital content, and can be tailored by grade, region, language, or subject.

Sounds expensive? It's not. Our satellite enables educators and innovators to deliver real-time educational content at a fraction of the cost of using cellular or wired networks.

One of the recent trends in the education sector is the introduction of a wide range of hand-held laptops and tablets that can serve as personal media consumption devices for the student. These devices enable multimedia consumption (audio, video, images and text), storage of contents and note taking. This is a quantum jump from the traditional classroom where students carry books and notebooks, and teachers deliver information using time-consuming chalk and blackboard.

Hence Yazmi created the Odyssey 700, which is the world's first satellite-enabled tablet computer and combines Yazmi's Direct-to-Tablet satellite technology with benefits of powerful yet inexpensive tablet computers. The Odyssey 700 is a compact, customized satellite-integrated Android® tablet with embedded educational tools and is packed with field-tested educational apps. The Odyssey 700 tablet can be recharged using electrical mains or the Yazmi low-cost solar-power charging station.

The Yazmi classroom server is a small and cost-effective Mini-PC with Yazmi satellite connectivity, Wi-Fi, and hard disk drive to provide tablet data backup/sync, in-class downloads, and a document library for student browsing. It also provides teachers with in-class tools to manage tablets including lockout for classroom lectures and during paper-based exams.

The Yazmi backpack-style carry bag is designed for use by youths ages 5 to 18. Students in Africa, Asia and the Middle East often walk or take public transit for sizable distances between home and school each day in harsh weather. While the Odyssey 700 tablet and antenna are some of the lightest of their types available on the market, carrying them between home and school without some sort of carry bag would expose the devices to rain, intensive direct sun and heat, and incur a higher propensity to drops and breakage.

The Yazmi Satellite Network

Delivery is as easy as

  1. Customer receives access to website portal for uplink of content
  2. Customer identifies which user groups are to receive the content and uploads content via Internet connection
  3. Satellite broadcasts the content and the selected users' tablets automatically download the content - either for real-time use or saved for later learning

About

Yazmi provides a unique and highly cost-effective learning technology infrastructure for rural, remote, and underprivileged areas in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Yazmi's solution is offered to government education ministries as well as private school operators, and also can be an effective solution for health service, disaster risk reduction, and emergency response applications.

The Yazmi Service is the world's first satellite-to-tablet content delivery system. Combining the Yazmi satellite data multicasting network and satellite-enabled Odyssey™ tablet computers, the Yazmi Service can wirelessly broadcast educational and other approved content to end users at up to broadband speeds. The Yazmi Service is massively scalable and requires no fixed infrastructure for users other than small classroom server PCs that sync, backup and oversee tablet management while students are in class.

Yazmi's satellites cover more than 5 billion people in over 120 countries. Deployment of the Yazmi Service can ensure that all students - regardless of location, school infrastructure, or access to Internet service - are able to receive high-quality educational materials on a regular basis and an advanced tablet computer on which to use them.

The system is meant to support the traditional Instructor-Led Learning environment, and can be particularly beneficial for large class sizes or classes comprised of students in multiple grades. Continuing education for teachers can be delivered via digital modules and complemented by live streaming training sessions. Live or taped lectures by "master teachers" can be deployed in instances where teachers do not have sufficient knowledge of the subject material, or can dramatically improve a teacher's ability to manage a multi-grade class.

The Odyssey tablet is highly portable, and is intended for use at home and school to maximize the time available for learning. Customized accessories including carry bags, protective shells, cases with integrated keyboards, and solar-powered charging stations are designed to maximize tablet reliability and utility.

Another key benefit of the Yazmi service is ultra-low data fees. A single 128-kbps channel provisioned for a government or corporate customer can transmit up to 40 GB of data each month, including live streaming group training sessions, e-books, apps, cached websites, and preparatory materials. For high volume orders, a satellite service fee is bundled in the cost of the Odyssey tablet - and is a tiny fraction of the per-GB cost of a cellular data service plan.

Governments and corporate customers can rely on the Yazmi Service to ensure that any student or teacher - even those in remote areas, out of school, or without access to electricity or the Internet - can obtain advanced learning tools, official curriculum materials and structured classroom teaching to improve their educational outcomes.
